The Las Cruces Four Wheel Drive Club is pleased to announce the
21st Annual Chile Challenge Off-Road Trail Event
Southern New Mexico Fair Grounds (10 miles west of Las Cruces)
This event provides an opportunity for drivers of four wheel drive vehicles of any experience level to drive trails in a supervised, nationally recognized, four wheeling event. The event is a family oriented trail ride designed to maximize your enjoyment of the desert and the four wheeling experience. Each ride is lead by an experienced trail leader who manages the run, makes sure all participants complete the run, oversees the climb over significant obstacles, if needed, and stays in communications with each vehicle via a CB radio. There is no competition, just the challenge of the trail. Choose from very easy rides accessible in a stock 4x4, to some of the most extreme trails in Southern New Mexico: it’s your choice?
You will have many opportunities to see how other drivers manage the various obstacles, take pictures, meet the other participants, and enjoy the abundant sun (and occasional wind) along the trail. Runs last 4 to 6 hours: riders are encouraged to bring water, lunch and snacks for what will be an intense but pleasurable day in the canyons west of Las Cruces. Each canyon changes every year due to seasonal flooding therefore the challenge is always new for each and every driver no matter how often you come. The Challenge is for registered participants only, there are few spectator opportunities.
Mail in registration is now available until January 28, 2011.
Registrations must be postmarked by January 28, 2011.
After February 1st we will no longer accept mail-in registration.
You will need to hand carry them to the event.
The BLM is also starting to work on their management plan for the Trackways National Monument - where most of our trails are.
